Information about the Tcl and Tk libraries The WordNet graphical interface, "wnb", uses the Tcl/Tk libraries. Under Solaris, Irix, and Windows, the Tcl and Tk libraries are compiled into the program. The Linux binary dynamically loads the libraries, but the operating system comes with the Tcl/Tk libraries installed. If you want to modify and compile the WordNet graphical interface ("wnb"/"wishwn") code for use with your own application, or if under Linux you have trouble getting "wnb" to run with the version of Tcl/Tk that is installed on your sytem, then you should install the Tcl/Tk 8.x libraries on your system. ("x" is a placeholder for the specific minor version number. "wnb" was built with 8.0 on some platforms and 8.2 on others.) You can check your current version of Tcl by running "tclsh" and typing "info patchlevel" at the first prompt. If it responds with 8.x, then both your Tcl and Tk versions should be correct for use with WordNet. If you have trouble running "wnb" or building an application, and your version of Tcl/Tk is correct, it's likely that you have a local path problem. Tweaking the library search path should do the trick. You can download the correct versions of Tcl and Tk from for free from: http://dev.scriptics.com/software/tcltk/ On this site you'll find information on both binary and source code downloads, and platform specific information for compiling the source code.
